I have been lucky to perform more times than I can recall in my native Portland and the greater Pacific NW region. I continue to play regularly in a variety of genres and venues, and am continually seeking new projects and new connections with other musicians. With my students, I seek to enlighten their minds to the same heights, aiding them in building routine and developing critical thinking skills, as well as bequeathing them the same artistic sensibilities that I inherited during my formal music education. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student develop a passion for music. Its important that each student progresses add their own pace. We at weekly goals and regularly discuss practice routines. Acquiring new skills requires musicians to break down music into its building blocks and practice additive components step-by-step. By successfully tailoring my instruction to their needs and desires, my students develop fundamentals and musicianship for a lifetime of music making and music appreciation. Read More

My lessons are all about fun! I see what you can play already, what you like to listen to, and I adapt to how you learn best. I pick songs that you enjoy that are also going to teach you how to play the drums! At the same time, I'll introduce exercises that relate to what we're playing that will transfer to other songs. I push my students to the limit but it works really well and I've seen my students grow quickly!-Knowing the basics and technique is important, so we go over that every lesson. Read More

I like the aphorism by British guitarist and educator Robert Fripp "We begin where we are". It means to me that at any given point we are all beginners. So if we come with an open mind to explore and learn something new, perhaps what it could be challenging might become easier if we apply the right mind set. So if we are learning a scale...perhaps we begin with a note at the time, then add a second and third, so on, until we have all eight notes or sixteen. - Slow down: If you want to play fast you gotta be able to play it slowly with accuracy and precision.
