i've been playing drums for 17 years. I am originally from New York where I worked as a drummer, educator, and then a professional in the music products industry. I graduated from Five Towns in 2009 with a bachelors degree in Jazz Commercial Music. Durning my time in college I expanded my musical palette adding swing, Latin, concert mallet percussion, drumline, and afro-cuban. Students must understand that although proper technique and a "nice voice" can get attention, long-term success is greatly determined by how they can create and retain a following, and keep up with a demanding, competitive, and constant-changing industry. Depending on the student's progress, I will give an assessment at a time I see fit where they will perform in front of a group of people (student's friends and family, and other students) that will provide constructive feedback. I like to use supplementary materials if a method book isn't covering musical territory that the student wants to explore. Although I insist a student learn to read music, I encourage learning by ear and have helped students find a melody on the piano by ear rather than reading notes. Patience is my watchword but I will always encourage and document practice times. I tell the student, you can't achieve your music goals without practice, preferably every day. Read More

For beginning and intermediate students on piano, I generally teach out of Piano Adventures as a supplement, but teach other songs the student requests. For voice lessons, I tailor my supplemental book teaching to the students individual learning abilities, as well as learning songs they are passionate about. My philosophy on learning music is that a students should NEVER play a song that they hate! I tailor my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun, no matter what their skill level. Once the student has progressed to gain fundamentals I introduce Alfred’s Basic piano Library Prep Course with the theory book as well.
