I do expect regular practice outside of lessons; I do not want lessons to simply be a guided practice session. Ideally, students would fully prepare the assigned material for each lesson-- not that it needs to be perfect, but that I can tell that he or she has been working on it. For students who are clearly putting in a reasonable amount of effort, I reward them by writing out melodies of their favorite pop songs for them to learn to play. Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
Starting with a couple of easy scales will teach the student how to position their hands properly and there they will learn how to cross their fingers as well. Even though a lot of this may not be "fun", it is the fundamentals of becoming a good piano player and will help tremendously in future lessons as well. After touching over all of that or even in the midst of it, I like to try to find a few beginning songs that will keep the student engaged and eager to learn more. Read More

Nothing is more of a joy to me than seeing my students succeed! I set an individual pace for each student that allows them to set realistic goals and accomplish them. I am an instructor that believes in making music education fun, and achievable, and pride myself on creating a fun and open environment for each student. Making sure that we acknowledge the successes of the student allows the student to continue striving for the more difficult, longer term goals. Read More

For my advanced students (18+), depending on how advanced they are, I start them in the "First Book of _______ Solos" series. This series covers singing in English as well as several other languages and provides a good foundation for singing. Anything else I do with the student is on an individual basis. For younger brass students (10-14) I would teach out of the Standard of Excellence Books unless they are more advanced where I would start them in the Arbans Book, Robert Getchell Book, and/or Schlossberg Book. Instruments: Trumpet
I started teaching trumpet after graduating from Chiropractic school and have loved every moment of it. I mainly go to student's houses for teaching purposes, however, it is also possible to come to my office and/or home office to develop your trumpet skills. I have been exposed to many playing styles, therefore, giving me a well-rounded sound and ability to teach at multiple levels. Whether it's learning about trumpet mechanics or wanting to audition for a top ensemble, I can show you how to succeed. Read More

My musical life has been extraordinary. Born in Mpls. MN, I attended the Aspen Musical Festival before my departure to Vienna Austria for Master studies in Violin/viola and piano. Scholarship intended for one year ended up a 25 year tenure, teaching, performing in Vienna and raising a family. I returned to the US to become executive director of a music school in MN. I was able to start new after school music programs for elementary schools throughout the district, start an orchestra program and open a theater program for kids. Read More
