Hello! I am an active clarinetist and teacher located in the Twin Cities. I have just completed my DMA in Clarinet Performance at the University of Minnesota. I have a wide experience performing solo, chamber and orchestral music performing in various genras, from classical music to more modern and some types of folk classical music. My favorite part about teaching is watching my students progress. Nothing is better than seeing the progress one makes after a given time. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. Setting goals for themselves can work well but there is no need to rush anything. Learning takes time and especially learning an instrument. I graduated from McNally Smith College of Music magna cum laude in 2011 with a bachelors in vocal performance. I played everywhere from Duluth. Minnesota to Lima, Peru: sharing the stage with artists as diverse as Andres Prado and Judi Donaghy. In addition to my McNally Smith Degree, I received master classes from Bobby McFerrin and the New York Voices. Acknowledging accomplishments helps engage a students desire to progress and make students eager to learn more. I began teaching clarinet lessons as a college student in 1990, and got my first job as a band director in 1993. I have not taught lessons in a home studio setting (only at school), but would be able to teach students in my home if desired, or would travel to students' homes or teach online if preferred. I have taught piano, drums, and all band instruments since 1993. I believe my concentration on the music and not the words lead me into my passion for the piano, which I started playing at the age of eight.
