I am an instructor who tailors lessons based on the student's desires. Having been a performer since I was 13 years old, I work as a musical coach. My performing experience varies from pop, rock, country, jazz, hard rock, contemporary Christian and classical. I am a classically trained pianist and vocalist. Currently I play in a trio that performs regularly at nursing homes. I love bringing joy to the elderly by playing their favorite sing alongs as well as teaching them current music. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba
I have been teaching trombone since the summer of 2011, and have also taught some euphonium/baritone and tuba lessons as well. I desire to help students grow in their love of music, and to help them to be self-motivated. It is my responsibilityfor 30-60 minutes a weekto teach a student how to improve, but it is up to the student to improve and learn the rest of the week. If the only thing a student learns is responsibility, then I have done my job. Read More

For my advanced students (18+), depending on how advanced they are, I start them in the "First Book of _______ Solos" series. This series covers singing in English as well as several other languages and provides a good foundation for singing. Anything else I do with the student is on an individual basis. For younger brass students (10-14) I would teach out of the Standard of Excellence Books unless they are more advanced where I would start them in the Arbans Book, Robert Getchell Book, and/or Schlossberg Book. Instruments: Piano Keyboard
For beginners, I like to start with getting to know the keys and their patterns. There are 7 different white keys and 5 different black keys and once you figure out the pattern, it becomes easy to identify the keys on the piano. After that, I like to touch over basic music theory i.e. identifying sharps and flats, intervals, structures of scales, etc. I also like to teach my students how to read sheet music and flashcards (which I have) have helped a numerous amount of times with that. Instruments: Cello
For the beginner, I generally start with the Essential Elements books (at least Book 1) and switch to Suzuki Cello School books after that. For intermediate to advanced students, I teach from various technique books and progress to standard cello reperatoire, from works by Klengel, Lee and Popper to standard concertos and sonatas. I began teaching in 2003 at my high school during an arts funding crisis that left band students to have sporadic lessons, since we had had an exceptional teacher previously we persevered and excelled in a student-led environment. Luckily by our senior year we had another extraordinary instructor who helped us win first in our district band final, no small feat considering our schools financial hardships and a concert band consisting of only ten students. Instruments: Piano
My teaching experience began 10 years ago when I had the opportunity to teach group piano classes at a local elementary school. My first piano pedagogy classes were at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2005-2006, and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity for practice teaching not only at the Cleveland Institute of Music but also at the MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis, MN. I taught 20 weekly students during my time at the University of Illinois and upon moving back to Minneapolis, MN, began teaching for Schmitt Music locations as well as agencies that give in-home lessons.
