I encourage consistent and regular practicing with my students because that is how one succeeds at playing an instrument. In my school years, I participated in band where I learned the technical aspects of music such as reading and writing notation. I tell my students you're not studio/performance ready until you can play through a song 10 times without error. I encourage improvisation. I always say if you can count to 4 you can start learning in less than 10 minutes. I stress the importance of practicing every chance a student gets.
