I believe that education is something that should be enjoyable, especially music. Music is something that inspires us and makes us happy. I encourage those ideas in lessons, and I focus on teaching students to play with musicality. For each individual student, I set reasonable goals for them at the end of each lesson. I also explain to them how to practice, and how to do so efficiently. Another idea I tend to focus on with my students is performance and how to practice performing. Read More

I really enjoy teaching theory on the fretboard, and exploring chord construction is one of my favorite moderate/intermediate topics. In general, I'm a strengths-based, metaphor-heavy teacher, looking for ways to connect students with the material. Read More

For beginning students for playing the flute I would teach them about the horn, how to put it together, and the best way to blow into the mouthpiece with correct air support. What you learn from the start you tend to always carry with you, so it is best to learn correctly from the beginning. The next lesson I would ask them to show me what we learned the last time and if they did it correctly, we would move on and start to learn a note or two. Read More

With younger clients I focus on mechanics of guitar at the base level. I really focus on playing basics early on. Beyond beginner lessons at the more intermediate levels I focus on more playing by ear. For more advanced students I show them the techniques, methods, and resources to pool in order to achieve desired results. I try to make lessons fun for my clients. Lessons with me are straight foward. Read More

I'm very big on motivation. I tell my students from day one how great there doing and give them something to work towards. For example if I have a guitar student that really wants to be a lead guitarist I will play the solo of one of there favorite songs and teach them a small part of it or all of it if they are at an advanced level. I believe this is why my stufents never quit and always are excited to lesrn more because theres never a dull moment. Read More

Instruments: Bass Guitar Double Bass
My approach to teaching music is essentially a synthesis of my formal music education and a distillation of what I have learned from my experiences gigging. While a fluency with music notation is a great benefit and a necessity for some styles, a bassist will not work without the ability to make the music feel good. This feel can only be achieved through developing one's sensitivities to pitch and time. Read More
