With younger students I try to be as patient as possible by allowing them to tell me exactly what they are looking to learn in the lessons. I then base my lesson plan on this interaction and build the relationship from there. I also include a chat about life, music and music-business discipline. For the Double-Bass, i listen to the student’s needs and interests, and we work from there. Mostly Scales, Arpeggios, Intervales, Fingering, Instruments position, all of these with the bow, for better intonation.
