When they are getting the basics, I will introduce music of their favorite styles into lessons and we will work on technique seperately and through these repertoire selections. For young beginners, I assess the best approach - be it a particular method book or writing out my own studies geared toward the individual. From the first lesson, proper bow technique is emphasized, helping the student get a pleasing sound in the first lesson. For younger and newer students regardless of age, I like to focus primarily on fundamentals such as developing proper posture, becoming comfortable with the instrument, tuning and producing sound.
