For more advanced students, I use technique books and etudes by Hanon, Czerny, Pischna, and Chopin. I don't use a cookie cutter approach, but match the book to the student. It is important for me to expose the student, no matter the age, to not only written material, but chordal structure and basic harmony. My junior year culminated with a semester in New York City working in an administrative/artistic internship at the Metropolitan Opera. During school, and immediately upon graduating, I was fortunate enough to see my interest in music and theatre education realized in my work opportunities. For the past few summers, I worked at four community arts organizations, as both a teacher and an administrator. I've actually written and produced my own music theory book that was in all Borders stores before they closed down. I've learned a few methods and I try to incorporate them all unless the student or parents wants something specific. My method is a method where I can teach 1 thing countless ways. I love my students to learn theory because it is a very important backbone to music. Some people can play instruments without ever really kwoing what they are playing or understand the theory behind it, and I think it holds them back from truely being creative and understanding of music.    With my methods students will be able to play from any genre, any book, and hopefully will be able to create their own music. I have been directing the childrens choir at my church since 2009, here I develop lessons for students 5-10, each week to get them performance ready for performances once every 2 months.
