Instruments: Voice Music
When I work on songs with them, I help them improve their vocal technique by using any methods that they will understand for their own bodies. Because we can't simply touch and manipulate our vocal cords to make sound, my job is to help my students visualize how their body moves and feels when they make a healthy, beautiful sound. One of my favorite parts of the lesson process is when the songs are completely memorized and we can work on the emotional side of them. Read More
Instruments: Violin
I love kids and since I am on the younger side of most violin teachers, I believe I have an advantage of connecting with the students more. When there is a nurturing bond between a teacher and a student, it allows the student to connect more and be more responsive throughout their lesson. One of my teaching styles is making the lesson fun by making jokes, connecting the music to their favorite type of music. Read More
Instruments: Double Bass
My teaching experience has not been particularly extensive professionally. I have taught privately on and off since I was 20, however I have never really had the time to pursue it the way I am now that I am out of school. Instruments: Piano Trombone
Trombone - I utilize the books Abrams and Rochut-Melodious Etudes. I develop custom curriculum for each students level and learning style. At the first lesson, I evaluate what the student wants to get out of the lessons, what sparks their interests in music, and skill level. From there, I share exercises from the books, exercises I create for developing certain skills, and later on, creation or exercises by the student. Read More
Instruments: Cello
Besides performing, I have devoted most of my time to teaching. I have been teaching students in private as well as in music schools for more than 35 years, ages ranging from as young as five years old to working adults. Starting from 2004, I have taught at David K's Music School in San Jose, where I am still teaching currently. During my teaching career, I have assisted countless students in preparing for orchestra auditions, as well as the more advanced students for local contests and competitions. Read More
Instruments: Voice
For so many years I struggled yet, persevered like any other singer. I was raised on a core set of beliefs that singing is all about breath and tone along with a dozen or so buzzwords that led me to more questions than answers about my own voice. It was not until much later in life that I realized that the most important component of all is authenticity. I truly believe that real and honest creativity comes from a place of authenticity.
