Mistakes are how every singer improves! With older students, I want to help students learn to recognize their own mistakes and areas they can improve on. I will always be ready to help them on trouble areas or encourage them when they get it right, but I want them to learn how to recognize it on their own so they can develop outside of a lesson! This comes from having them identify: where something didn't go as planned, why didn't it, and what can they do to improve it the next time. Read More

My teaching style depends upon the student! I love reaching set goals, and I verbally check in to take the students feelings, thoughts, and playing into account. We come to a decision together, and I am not the final say on any matter. I see lessons as a collaboration, as I have much to learn from this experience as well. I have most students start with Essential Elements for fundamentals.  Then I progress to solo and duet repertoire when the time a student is able to grasp counterpoint and rhythm well.  Adult students can often move faster due to being able to understand the math behind music.  I also try to incorporate theory and history and culture with my lessons. For piano, I use Bastien for my younger students and Farber and Bastien for my older students. Read More
