Classes are customized per the student's individual needs. For some students, this means a standard repertoire: Schradiek, Scevcik, Hrimaly for violin. Hanon for piano. But for others, they would do better with a less formal approach. In all cases, the use of the ear is fundamental and primal. We will learn how to hear, and how to listen for timbres and intervals. (Basic interval training will be a part of everyone's lesson, as there's really no way around that.) Some students are intimidated by the classical repertoire, and the demands the classical tradition places on musicians. Read More

I have taught private lessons to all ages since High School and this is where I feel like I thrive as an educator. I have coached for Harmony Project, Youth Orchestra Los Angeles and many others, as well as Drum and Bugle Corps and Marching bands throughout California. I have been the band director and general music educator for several elementary schools in the Bay Area and Los Angeles County Throughout the pandemic, I worked as Program Director for the Sacramento Mandarins, a nonprofit music academy with the mission of transforming the lives of youth through performing arts. I'm a professional musician who enjoys working with students and passing along my knowledge of the arts. In 2013 I graduated from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance and a Jazz Studies Certificate. During the summer of 2013, I attended New York University's Broadway Percussion Seminar and took private lessons on Timpani and sight reading. In 2015 I received my certification in the operation of Pro Tools in a recording studio and a degree in Contemporary Drum Performance from the Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena. Read More

I treat each student individually. Everyone has their own pace of learning and their own capabilities. I cater my lessons towards their needs. It is important as so they can have a successful learning experience and development. I also like to learn about what kind of music they like and I find the music they want to learn at their skill level. I usually incorporate several different genres into the lessons that they desire to learn, including Pop, Musical Theatre, Film Music, and even world music. Read More

I have been teaching both private and group lessons for ten years, teaching students in their homes, my home, and after. I have noticed a lot of violin students tend to be tense, and judgmental against themselves, so afraid of making a "mistake." So my first task is often to get them to relax, and love playing the violin. I search for ways to make it fun for them and help them learn the music they want to play. Read More

My methods are geared toward the individual. Oftentimes I might start with a methods book for a beginner, but supplement it with musical choices by the individual. In selecting these choices, I find ways to simplify the music so that the student is able to be able to play it. My method is also based on questions that the student might ask. So while we will have an approach that is organized and structured, I find that addressing seemingly unrelated musical questions, can actually be incorporated into the tasks at hand. Read More

Instruments: Voice

My lessons are pretty straight forward. We begin with understanding body posture and alignment for singing. Once in good posture, I encourage breath flow while maintaining good alignment. A good exercise for breath control and release is taking a deep breath in 10 seconds, holding the expansion or suspension for 10 seconds and then releasing (NOT PUSHING) the breath in an s sound, all while maintaining a tall and expanded posture. Next, we move on to scales from the middle of the voice to the lowest notes to get the voice warmed up. Read More
