Instruments: Clarinet
I've been playing the clarinet for over 20 plus years from middle school through college. I've performed in various concert bands, jazz bands, pep bands and chamber groups while in school. In addition to the clarinet, I can also play the saxophone as well. Groups that I played for includes the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band. I studied the clarinet at El Camino College and was a student of James E. Mack prinicple clarinetist from the Carson Dominguez Hills Symphony and also Studied Clarinet at California State University Long Beach under woodwind specialist Joe Stone from the Long Beach Symphony. Instruments: Voice
My teaching experience encompasses five years of teaching private lessons to people of all ages, backgrounds, and voice types. I have successfully helped students nail Broadway, film, college, and community theatre auditions. I love to challenge students and help them overcome any obstacles in their voice. Singing is such a vulnerable and sensitive instrument mostly because it is not visible to the human eye. Therefore, I use all the resources I've gained from performing, teaching and my education to provide students with the support and guidance to follow their dreams. Read More
Instruments: Bass Guitar Double Bass
For beginning students I like to get them to have proper technique when it comes to the right and left hand placement on the bass. I also like them to get familiar with a sense of time so I use a metronome and teach them about how the beat works along with playing the notes on the bass. For intermediate students I gauge their knowledge of music theory such as scales and arpeggios and work on those along with tackling songs that they might want to play. Read More
Instruments: Violin
Teaching has been a part of my life ever since childhood. While I myself was a student in high school, I taught my own students from my community. Throughout college, I was an instructor at the Santa Barbara Strings program, leading ensembles and coaching chamber music. I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Denver's Lamont School of Music from 2016-2018. While in San Francisco, I taught 20 students weekly at The Amabile School of Music. Read More
Instruments: Drums
During the first lesson I always assess where the student is the learning timeline with their instrument. I also find out what the student's goals are with music. Once this has been established we work on a plan of action to acheive those goals. Since the vast majority of drum students are primarily interested in learning drumset skills, we will start working on this from the very first lesson. I tend to break drumset studies into these general groups: skills and technique, independence and coordination, groove studies, and reading. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
My teaching style has a balanced mixture of work and play. The work comes first and is always the forefront of each session. This will include warming up with long tone exercises, scales for balance and technique, sight reading and ear training. The play part means taking a break from the instrument, listening and discussing everything that we hear. It's a fun way to take their mind off of music assignments even though we're still practicing a form of ear training. Read More
