For beginning students, I typically begin with a deep dive on rudimental studies and keyboard skills on drums and mallet percussion. I gradually introduce notation and music literacy tools to improve the students understanding of how the fundamentals of music interact with one another. I use a lot of rote teaching methods as well to take full advantage of how physical percussion and drums can be. I began playing by ear at age 5. I have perfect pitch and was able to play songs I heard after one hearing by age 6. I made my first record at age 16 and began to perform professionally. I attended Hofstra University and received a BS in Music Theory and Composition. I current am an MA candidate at Queens College Aaron Copeland Scool of Music. I believe no everybody learn the same way so I adapt to find the best, most efficient and fun path to teach my students. For Children I like to emphasize the importance of the fundamentals and technique through fun exercises and simple tunes they can play along to. I emphasize ear-training and a physically relaxed and technically accurate approach to cello playing so that students are free to create music without limitations or physical discomfort.
