For beginners, introductory lesson books are very helpful for teaching the fundamentals of reading and playing music. I take a split approach with students working on basics such as scales/arpeggios along with repertoire so students can develop multiple skills at one time. I approach technique for both cello and piano as the art of releasing tension in the body while achieving the desired sound of the instrument. I have been singing since I was 6, playing trumpet since I was 10, and I picked up guitar in my early 20's. I am now 49 and have taught voice, guitar, trumpet for over 7 years from my cozy home. I have been part of many musical ensembles (in many genres) in my 30 year career and have session work that's currently located in the Seattle Rock Roll museum. Since then, I accepted a position as a summer music instructor at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa, IL.  I love teaching music, and started when I was twenty years old.  From 2005-2006, I studied guitar at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, before a hand injury forced me to move back to the Chicagoland area.  In 2009, I graduated from Prairie State College with a Liberal Arts Degree. I took music theory classes and 1 year of jazz band at Prairie State.  I graduated from Columbia College in 2015. I achieved a Bachelor of Music degree, with a focus in classical guitar performance.
