I have been teaching students off and on since 2007. Regular practice has always been encouraged to my students, but I encourage even more to find the love in learning and playing music. Regardless of age or skill level, my students are all equal to me. As a beginner, learning a new intstrument can be tedious, but that is the pathway of finding the love in the instrument. My teaching does not cut corners. I often tell young students to watch the movie "Karate Kid" and play close attention to the "Wax on, wax off" scenes. (Fortunately, there are practice supplements using play along tracks that make this process more fun and less tedious). I not teach "songs", but I do teach the language of drumming and the language of music. From there we will focus on building technique, musicality, and theory knowledge while focusing on cello repertoire. To end each lesson, we'll break out something fun whether that means learning a new pop song, jazz piece, or playing a cello duet. In 2012, I was the woodwind specialist and helped with the overall coordination of the music for La Salle High school in Cincinnati, Oh. This band won the MSBA Midstate Championship in Class AA. I love to kick off sessions with a student by asking them a couple of questions concerning there interests and what they specifically are looking to learn as each student is different and each students background varies. If a student is a beginner I will usually begin with a good entry level book called Stick Control which covers how to properly hold the sticks along with basic rudiments that coincide with music theory being able to play quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes. For beginning students I generally use the Suzuki books and have had some training in the method. I don't use a strict Suzuki method but combine it with a more traditional approach by including note reading, scales, etc. I also use the Faber books in conjunction with the Suzuki for piano. For adults I generally give them the option of choosing the music they would like to learn and then try to incorporate some of the technical elements by using scales and Hanon exercises. Read More

In 2012 I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies. Since then, I have moved to Nashville, earned my Master's Degree from Belmont University in 2014, and have began my professional career as a freelance saxophonist. I have had the chance to perform and record in some of Nashville's most historic venues and recording studios.
