I teach a number of vocal warmups, exercises to extend vocal range, breath support workouts, physical stretches and grounding techniques, and coaching to refine vocal quality. I've been teaching piano for 13 years, and was trained to do so by a woman who is skilled in the art of pedagogy.  That was my first job, and later on I opened my own private studio.  At one point I've had up to 45 students, and I've enjoyed working with all of them.  I give recitals 4 times a year which helps me see progress in my students.  We've tried all kinds of performances, some with themes.  The last one I did was a recital with only 70's pop and rock songs.  They really enjoyed that one! I like to bring in all genre's of music including rock and pop, folksongs, movie tunes just to name a few. I find that students learn quickly when learning music that is already familiar to them. I work with tapping rhythms and singing note names, then learn how to pluck the part and then finally add the bow. Every student is different and has different dreams, needs and goals. So, my teaching style relies heavily on communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. My first lesson is focused on setting goals for yourself and unearthing musical dreams and ideas. The following lessons are about hitting that goal as soon as possible. Once that goal is hit, I set another goal with you, and so on. Depending on the level of the student and instrument, I incorporate a mixture of theory, aural skills, technique, and repertoire. All of my piano students play Hannon exercises to build up their finger strength and dexterity as well as scales. Vocal students and guitar students likewise learn scales and exercises for the sake of technique.
