Drumming is all about repetition, and without that, drumming (and every instrument) is hard to learn! I have between lesson plans for all levels. After the first lesson, I get my students the book "Stick Control for the Snare Drummer" by George L Stone. I consider it essential for students to have great control of their hands and sticks before we really get to harder material. All lessons are taught with a metronome, and we up the tempo as we go. Originally from Dallas, TX, I was always interested in music but never thought of it as more than a hobby. I was a solo performer playing shows around the Dallas/Fort Worth area and in a popular Salsa band for years before I finally decided to get back into school and see where this musical journey would take me. In 2017, I graduated with honors from Fort Lewis College and finally in 2020 I received my Masters degree in Jazz Performance and Pedagogy from The University of Colorado-Boulder. Read More

I encourage students to to have fun during lessons and individual practice. I like to push my students to their limit. If the student is pushed to his/her limit, it will motivate them to work harder. Also, I like to ask what the student's goal is. Read More

I began teaching private students in high school, and have been consistently teaching students in my studio for the past five years. Many of my students have gone on to be very successful in youth orchestras, school programs, and music conservatories. During my senior year at university, I had the opportunity to serve as a faculty member for my university's pre-college music program. In this role, I represented the university by providing musical instruction to young upper string students. Read More
