When I was 12 years old, I showed an interest in the bass guitar and decided to pick it up and quickly began expanding my musical palette. The love for the instrument carried on strongly throughout my teenage years where I performed in my acclaimed high school jazz band for all four years, involving me in local competitions, as well as performing in Chicago. I furthered my musical education attending college at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, CA and earned my Bachelor Degree in music performance, studying upright bass under Putter Smith, and electric bass with bassists such as Brian Allen, Stu Hamm, Michael Mennell and Ernest Tibbs. I use the Rubank method of books as a traditonal conservatory approach to early progression. I find their systematic flow efficient and effective to consistent improvement. We would then move to fulfilling repertoire that would qualify the student for collegiate study and competitive performance. I always keep an open attitude and make my lessons energetic and exciting, while still being constructive. I love seeing my students' faces light up when they hear a cool lick, or when they nail a song they've been working on. That feeling makes the whole experience worth it for me, and I feel very lucky to teach music for a living. My teaching experience is based on my own lessons with my piano and flute teachers. I am lucky to have studied under some fantastic professors of music from cal state long beach. I encourage students to try new instruments and motivate them to learn their favorite pop songs. My time in marching band throughout high school was a great relief from schoolwork for me. I've worked with kids from k-8th grade, in tutoring and I find best after 4th grade for music lessons. Read More
