I acheive this through various agility exercises and working on repertoire with at least an octave of range. I also work on bridging the vocal registers through mindful vowel manipulation and plenty, PLENTY of support. For the advanced singer, the instruction can be guided on helping through a piece of repertoire, particular vocalizations or ornaments and the like. In the first lessons, I explain the the beginner students the basic functionality of the instruments, the proper way to hold the instruments, how to produce a clear sound from the instruments and a Major scale ascending and descending, the one from which the first lessons or the next lessons is written. If the students already had books from prior music instructor, we pick up from the last lessons after answering questions t o make sure the students thoroughly understand the lessons from the previous chapters and he or she is ready to proceed to the next lessons. I won't try to get ahead if I see the student is struggling to learn. I like making sure my students learn but most importantly remember what has been taught during the lessons.
