I love watching students learn and helping them to progress. There is nothing more satisfying than sharing my love for playing music with students! I set realistic goals for each student depending on their starting point. Assessing where each student is with their playing is the most important aspect of teaching. Too hard and the student will get discouraged. Too easy and they will be bored. I encourage them to select at least one piece of music that they would enjoy learning to keep their interest. Read More

Every student has different goals ,wants and needs..and it is for this matter that an individual and personal approach is needed to address those musical aspects, catered and tailored specifically geared towards their learning the instrument.I use various resources at my disposal: books,mp3s and videos and my many years of experience and knowledge of performing and teaching. For classical: I use the Matteo Carcassi Method Book, Fernando Sor and Mel Bay's Complete Method for Classical Guitar. Read More

I place a strong focus on fundamentals, while customizing lesson plans based on the student's skill level and musical interests. Most importantly, I like to keep things fun for my students by finding out more about their favorite recording artists, and creating exercises that incorporate this into their learning. By connecting with these unique interests and encouraging regular practice, lessons are much more enjoyable for students. In addition , more traditional concepts such as music theory are also offered on request. Read More

I have been teaching, recording, producing, and performing music since I was 14. I have 60 productions, currently from a 3 piece band, and perform across the Triangle. I have my own business with over 20 students weekly. I also work for two local music instruction companies and teach an audio production course after school at Duke Middle. I also played with Payne’s Chapel Gospel, Women’s, Men’s, and Mass Choirs from age 13 until 26. Read More

For beginning elementary and middle school students I usually use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once my student has a working knowledge of the fundamentals, I introduce music that will build confidence and keep the student's interest. Although I am using a method book, it is just a guide. Along the way, I may supplement the book with other exercises to work on specific techniques. For adults, I first assess my student's skill level, and we talk about goals and a realistic practice schedule. Read More

I have been teaching in my own home and in student's homes for 9 years. I excel in teaching my students to be proficient sight readers because I want them to gain the ability to sit down with any piece of music and play it. I believe my job as a teacher has been fulfilled if my students reach a point where they no longer require my help. I also want my students to reap the benefits of music that go beyond performance at the keyboard, such as confidence, enhanced motor skills, challenging mental stimulation, a desire to learn, and emotional development.
