I had a close relationship with my music teachers growing up and I hope to establish the same type of relationship with my own students as I have with previous ones. For young, beginning students, I typically start with teaching basic playing technique and note reading through simple songs, in order to ensure the student has a grasp of the fundamentals of playing and reading. After this point, I introduce chords and scales and more advanced songs, in order to further develop the student's playing and reading capabilities. I am very passionate about music and I love playing the piano and I enjoy teaching piano lessons to beginners and intermediate levels (children and adults). I sang in the choir at my grade school through high school and I performed on the piano and in tone chimes in many programs during high school and college. My teaching style is basically giving personalized voice lessons to each student according to their goals and musical interests. I will customize each lesson according to this common ground. I usually will spend 50% of the lesson in vocal technique and the other 50% applying the vocal technique to the repertoire the student is working on. Sometimes this will vary according to the specific needs of the student.
