I typically start by teaching them the parts of the guitar how to hold a guitar and all the physical fundamentals including fretting notes properly etc... then I ask them what their goals are as a player if they’re interested in learning a lot of theory or just want to sing and play with their friends etc.… Then I teach them the names of the strings and tell them to memorize them as well as the dot markers on the fretboard and then I have them learn some strumming patterns and a few simple chords to get them started and then begin learning the names of the notes from open position to 12th and then learning The major scale up the neck one string at a time… And I also incorporate the use of a Metronome which I find is hugely important… Then we incorporate a simple song that they can play with four chords from there onto learning how to harmonize the major scale and then incorporate more theory… All the while assessing their needs and fixing any trouble spots they’re having… Then on to scales and more theory and More Metronome work...And every couple of lessons I teach them a new song of their choosing to make sure that they’re having fun fun fun Read More

I have been lucky enough to have been teaching for 45 years I have taught privately for a short period of time I also taught at Plainview high school as a drill instructor working with the students in the marching band and helping some of them prepare for nysma solos I really had a great time doing that for about a year and a half I taught at Sam Ash for group lessons for promotion the main thing that I like to do is get students to be proficient enough to be able to play two songs to be able to play in a band also too to be able to prepare for playing the band in whatever school they happen to be in college preparation audition preparation auditioning for America's got talent anything the student wants to do but the main thing that I really like to emphasize is having them be able to play to songs I like to teach all styles of music really working around with a student wants to do it's been really rewarding for me and it's always a great experience many of my students have gone on to play professionally and have achieved great technical skills it's great to see that happening. As a flute teacher, I encourage my students to play with love. Finding the balance between physical technique and musicianship is something that students can struggle with. In order to master the flute, students need to be technically proficient, but to make music, students must be inspired.
