I listen and watch students and learn from them what it is they need, going from wherever they may be with the instrument, to the next step. And then beyond, all at a pace which motivates them while making them confident they have what they need to enjoy their own music. Each student is unique and I tailor what we do to their age, level of experience, musical aspirations and personality. Read More

I teach both voice and guitar. As an instructor of voice I start with Breathing exercises, posture, and ear training. I take methods from "The Singing Book" by Maribeth Dayme Cynthia Vaughn. With children, I gage how well their grasping the fundamentals before learning songs. Once we've gotten their we move forward to learning about different techniques. What I enjoy most is getting to know my student. Often times students show / tell me what their interested in learning, as each student is a different learner! Read More

I am a passionate performer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. I began teaching when I was in High School, and that led to a fourteen-year career in independent schools. I have taken students all over the world — Japan, Bolivia, Ireland, and Italy were some notable trips — to share their passion for music with like-minded and diverse audiences. I believe every student should be working towards a public performance, and I am committed to preparing students of all ages to share their music with the world. Read More

I like to divide my lessons in two parts: first we address the most formal aspects of the lesson, most of the times using a method book or given hand-outs or whatever relevant material was suggested to the student; the remainder of the lesson is dedicated to work on the students choice of a song or anything less formal suggested by myself. This scheme for lessons might be different regarding the level and commitment of the student, but it is in general the outline I use. Read More

I think being well rounded is important with music and one thing that I've noticed is building on what the student is interested in. Started off with materials builds important fundamentals, but if my student is nodding off to sleep, then I'm not doing my job. I'll begin by setting a goal and seeing what the student is interested in (i.e. what band/song would they like to learn about?) From there, I'll set a realistic goal (Flight of the Bumblebee can't and shouldn't be the first song on guitar that you learn) and we'll learn the techniques, structure, and music theory that exists in a certain song. If you are looking for a Classic teacher with classic teaching methods, you are looking in the wrong spot. I teach with an instant gratification method. You will still be just as skilled (if not more) as the rest of any other musicians out there but what you will have and develop is your own artistry and your own path as a musician. So many teaching styles try to make music more of a science rather than a passion. Read More

For beginning students I would start off with form, posture, and technique. These point are extremely important and sometimes skipped over so developing good performance habits right away is essential. I would also start them with the basics of reading treble clef and learning where the notes on the staff translate to on the neck. They would be walking away from their first lesson with a one octave C major scale and some short, repetitive exercises to get them ready for their first song. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
