In high school I won the MD Distinguished Scholarship in music performance, which allowed me to pursue a career in music performance. I attended UMBC and completed a music performance degree. Later I earned a degree in Music Education, and have been teaching in public school since 2003. I've taught privately, in after school Guitar Ensembles and Rock n Roll Workshops, as well as Life-Long Learning Classes. The main thing is for the student to gain confidence in what he/she is trying to learn. I have maintained a studio of about 10-15 students almost consistently after about a year of starting. My preferred piano method is Piano Adventures and I recommend using the Lesson, Theory, and Sight Reading books at each level. For guitar and voice I typically do not follow any specific method unless the student has a preference. For more advance piano students I typically will begin using Suzuki or move them to Burgmller Etudes and Schumann's Opus 68 - Album for the Young.
