I believe everyone, even teachers are students forever and we are all equal in this journey. I learn just as much, if not more from my students. I find the most progress in students are when they speak out and meet me halfway in the lesson. I am more than happy to adjust my methods as a teacher because no student is the same. I currently work with people with disabilities in music around the greater Boston area, but want to expand all around in the beautiful state of Rhode Island! Read More

I always start with what the student is interested in. I find that learning music comes much more naturally when the student is inspired and entertained by what they are trying to learn. I come from a long tradition of learning music by ear. I believe this is the best way to develop true musicality. While I very much see the value in sheet music, I believe that reading music without being about to play it by ear is like being about to write and write but not speak and understand English. As a teenager I began teaching young kids very introductory acoustic guitar methods. Later on in college, my music curriculum mandated teaching lessons on the primary instrument while receiving feedback from faculty and attending teaching workshops. I have participated in master classes with Eliot Fisk and Roland Dyens, and have attended master classes with world-famous flamenco, jazz, fusion, and classical guitar players. Currently I participate in the University of Rhode Guitar Ensemble and regularly perform and assist new members. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than helping someone discover their musical personality. Again, my style of teaching is partially dependent on what a student hopes to gain from lessons, but I first like to develop a rapport with the musicians I work with in order to foster a comfortable environment and healthy ambition. I think it is also necessary to set realistic goals to allow students to actively see their own progress. Read More

I have been teaching guitar and piano privately for the past 10 years ago, and was even selected by the Hartt School to be a piano tutor during my junior and senior years. In my undergraduate studies I took a few courses dedicated to the art of pedagogy. Through these courses I even had the opportunity to teach in front of renown faculty and gain insight from experts. The ability to share my love of music with others is one of the most rewarding experiences, and I often feel that I learning as much from teaching as from my own studies. Read More

I like to keep a relaxed environment when teaching. Nothing is more disappointing to me than when I hear that somebody has decided to give up music because they had a bad experience with a teacher. As a teacher I am here to support, encourage, and have fun! The last thing I want to do I be an intimidating teacher, and have my student dread lessons. Music is all about having fun, and expressing oneself. Read More

Melody (lead) playing is not essential, but encouraged, as I believe it is a viable and gratifying skill. Supplemental books are helpful and encouraged, but not required, as is music theory and sight reading (standard notation). Many books will include technical studies such as theory, which can certainly be helpful. Playing by ear is very helpful and useful, and I do utilize that. The abundance of online instructional videos can also be a supplement, as are other websites that use tablature (tab) notation, which I also use. Read More
