I have been playing guitar for 10 years. I want to pursue a career as an artist, playing around the world. I am new to giving music lessons but I cannot wait to start sharing the joy of music. I graduated from SUNY Westchester Community College with a degree in Liberal Arts. This degree is serving as a stepping stone to transfer into a four year school. Although I grew up with Hal Leonard and the Real Book (and have access to those if need be), I personally do not prefer to use any specific book in my lessons. I like my students to have a blank manuscript notebook with them at every lesson where I can write down scale shapes, chords, notes, and homework each week; this makes it easier to structure things around what they want to learn, rather than what the book wants them to learn. For beginning guitar students depending on age, I use two books: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and the FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method. For more advanced students, I use he Berklee College of Music books. We begin with simple finger exercises to build finger strength. From there, first position chords, strumming patterns. Years later I enrolled in a Classical guitar program at Julliard.
