I began teaching in 2004 and never looked back.I have also coached ROCK BANDS and taught rock-band clinics in the past 6 years.I've acquired so much experience from teaching different styles. For adolescent beginner piano students I recommend 'John Thompson's Earliest Piano Course'. In this series Books I-III build a strong base upon which a student can specialize in different genre and styles graduating from book III. For adult students beginning I would suggest John Thompon's Adult (or Modern) Piano Course. The pacing of this book is far more accelerated and more in keeping with an adult pace to work with. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with basic guitar studies. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, we will begin learning songs and playing together. For adults, I go off of what the student wants to learn and guide my instruction accordingly. I always try to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. These point are extremely important and sometimes skipped over so developing good performance habits right away is essential. I would also start them with the basics of reading treble clef and learning where the notes on the staff translate to on the neck.
