I began teaching quite early in my own guitar playing experience. Once I had the basics down, my friends would ask me to come to their house to show them how to play a few chords. It wasn't until close to 5 years ago when those friends kindly asked me to start teaching their children. It was then when I realized how much I loved teaching, so much in fact that I resigned from a cushy 9-5 office job to pursue teaching full time. Read More

For me seeing one of my students develop a passion for music is such areward! It is very important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I am constantly encouraging students to practice as slow as they need to. This eables students to have realistic goals each week that can be attained. It is important to take the time to acknowledge students and their accomplishments. This helps keep the learning fun and energetic. Read More

For classical and opera singing, I teach a healthy Bel Canto technique rooted in the Italian school of singing. I am also skilled in teaching SOVT style, but I typically avoid it with beginning singers. For musical theater and pop, I teach healthy belting techniques that preserve vocal quality and focus on a connection to the chest and body, alleviating vocal tension. For my guitar students, I teach fingering techniques and basic chords first, and then I focus on giving each student a basic repertoire--several pieces they already know and like to showcase their abilities and track progress. I'm a firm believer in self motivation. Having a good teacher is important but having a great student is paramount. I love to develop concepts that work for the individual student whom I'm relaying ideas to. Whether it is theory or academia or the idea of honest expression, all these facets of teaching have always been inspiring to me. I can mock up many different playing situations to accommodate any level of player. Read More

I Try to get away from mechanism without joy. Everything has to be close to the music. Exercises to be actually doing them with a rhythm and time. Other than doing things musically, practicing in different times and intentions help a lot for the student to be open to play songs in different ways. Technique and theory are necessary tools. To apply concepts musically they need to do it with musical taste. Read More

Iencourage students learn what I find is important for them to progress and eventually teach themselves, but I make sure not to exceed the pace of the individual student. At the same time, I make sure that the students are learning something that they consider enjoyable. I might ask if there is a particular song or style they are interested in learning. Though scales and exercises are important, the benefit of practicing these things is often not experienced until long in the future, causing the student to lose motivation. Read More
