This will start you off with a solid foundation that will help you play what ever musical styles you wish. I find that it is important to get to know each student's goals so that we can work towards them as a team. I am constantly pushing my students forward, but I make sure to take the time and remind them where they came from. This gets the student familiar with the feel of the instrument and helps to reinforce how the left and right hands work together when performing. Another benefit is that it helps the student to build speed/dexterity when playing. I can also teach songs requested by students and explain and demonstrate how theory and technique apply to the tune.
