I immediately address anything that I see to be problematic in the student's technique, and we start working on ways to improve it as soon as possible. These can be simple exercises and when I see that my students are improving in these exercises and that their technique has gotten better, I always make sure that they also notice the difference and give them a sense of accomplishment. I began teaching when I was 17 and have a pretty busy schedule of up to 35 students a week! Many of those students still continue to take lessons after 3 years of instruction and have improved beyond their original goals. I find that each student has different interests (rock, jazz, classical, pop, etc.) which is why I enjoy focusing on what they want to learn.
