My teaching experience dates back to high school, when I tutored fellow students in Mathematics. I went on to teach music at UC Santa Cruz as a member of the music department, including teaching an original course I developed entitled "Sound, Listening, and Consciousness". My dissertation research included inquiries into cognition, learning, as well as educational methods and the ways that humans learn. I have given talks about this work, and consider myself to be an educational professional, as well as a pedagogue. Read More

I believe that the most important elements of teaching are patience, structure and positive reinforcement. I strive to make each lesson both enjoyable and worthwhile. Each student has their own learning style and pace. My highest aspiration is to ignite the spark of curiousity that will lead to a lifetime of fulfillment. Read More

I started to privately teach in the year 2003 in Italy, in my house. I always encourage my students to ask any question whenever they felt the need, and to constantly practice at home in order to get better and maintain their desire to learn something new. Despite teaching Rock music, and more precisely Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, I like my students to be open minded and learn as much as possible about different kinds of music because I think that a great musician is able to play anything. Music is something that takes time to understand. It clicks in some students, but most kids take a while to develop musically. Patience is the most pronounced characteristic in my teaching style. It's easy to tell the student what they're doing wrong and what to correct, but that doesn't mean it's the most effective practice. Some kids will get nervous and make the same mistake over and over again. This is where it's important to use positive reinforcement and give the student time and space to be able to understand their mistake and fix it. Read More

With beginning children I usually start with Mel Bay Children's Guitar Books to get familiar with some basics and some easy kids songs. But experience has showed me one size does not fit all. I try to find a suitable book for each student to work from to use as a structured plan or path of development. I often utilize other elements in addition to the initial book, such as theory, chords, scales, and ear training. Read More

I always say that rhythm is more important than the notes. Play the right rhythm and the notes will come instead of playing every right note while sacrificing rhythm. I encourage students to make their mistakes loud, proud, and in rhythm so everyone has a better idea of what needs to be worked on most. I also emphasize isolating parts to practice and working backwards. Example: play the last two bars of the song until comfortable with it, now play the last 4 bars, last 6, last 8...etc., whole song. I have been teaching guitar to friends and family for the past 3-4 years, including several of my cousins and my brother. Their skill ranged from beginner to intermediate and I found that each person is different and requires different needs when it comes to guitar. There is many different aspects to teaching that I am familiar with and the most important one I've found most important is listening and patience. Read More
