My first experience teaching someone was when I was younger in my high school days, I was teaching my 7 year old nephew how to play ukulele which was an arduous task indeed. But through said trails and tribulations we managed to accomplish our goals together. Currently Im teaching guitar at the fine arts academy and I am teaching one student consistently while also substituting occasionally. One thing I have learned through teaching is that actually listening to music during practice is a big help and motivation which I like to include in sessions. Read More

My experience date back to my early college days, where I began as a volunteer piano teacher for veterans in a retirement community. I taught for a few months, when I was approached by two different women, one who wanted me to perform cover songs at the retirement facility that she managed, and another who wanted me to give her husband private music lessons. I performed for a few years during college, but stopped teaching after my only student moved away. Read More

For my beginning students I prefer to use The Hal Leonard Complete Edition books. I find this course to be clearly written and easy to understand, and it offers a broad musical foundation to facillitate students as they move easily to higher levels of guitar studies. In addition, I incorporate rhythm reading, ear training and chord studies which I feel are essential to the development of a practical guitarist and musician. Read More

I've had a performing career as a Jazz guitarist that spans over 25 years. In 2005 I was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition (now known as the Herbie Hancock Jazz Competition). Read More

My method begins by talking with beginning students to learn their likes and desires, so we can build a beneficial teaching plan together. I teach to the student, not to me. The results lead to a happier, more positive and dedicated student. I also teach in bite sized pieces, usually using the style of music, or even a favorite song the students like. Once a student has a small success, they will seek another. Read More

It is really fulfilling for me to see my students use the knowledge they gain from my instructions to improve their playing level. Effective practice habits are agreed upon between myself and each student. Goals cannot be achieved without effective practice habits. Students are encouraged to participate in their community and school music performance activities, enter competitions and do music examinations. These activities build self-confidence, help students to develop a sense of accomplishment and measure their progress. Read More
