My teaching style is structured primarily on learning to play by ear with light theory instruction. For advanced and more serious students, I am a huge theory nerd and I really enjoy teaching a more technical approach as well. My philosophy is to improve a student's skills by nurturing each person's specific interest and goals. I do not find it effective to try and force my own taste in music on my students, although I do make suggestions based on skills a student is trying to acquire. Read More

I'm nothing if not energetic and relatable. My lessons are a safe space to be yourself, and to come more and more out of your shell. Music is a fantastic form of therapy, personal growth, and self-expression, and I do everything I can to foster these. Together, we'll set realistic goals and I will hold you to them, encouraging you constantly, and gladly calling you out on your fear or laziness. Read More

There are several methods I use as a professor and they're all dependent on the student, their age and their goals. If they are younger, I like to employ elements of the Suzuki method because subjects like musical notation and theory might be too dense for the student. If the student has the aptitude/and or the discipline I can begin to apply a more systemic approach in terms of practice regiments like scales, practicing sight reading, their rhythmic feel, and even ear intonation and sight singing if the student is prepared for it. My instructional methods are customized to fit the individual student's preferences, goals and learning style. I never force my "agenda" or "method" on anyone. I cater to my students' guitar and musical goals. If a student wants to learn to read music, I generally suggest method books such as Hal Leonard Guitar Method or Alfred Guitar Method. Some students do not have any desire to learn to read music, so in that case, I use tablature to write out the songs for them. Read More

I'm a passionate musician and artist that has dedicated more than half of his life to this noble and amazing discipline, which I thoroughly believe that it does become your lifestyle and a way of seeing the world through completely different eyes. Art and music are about compassion, sharing, empathy, and humanity, anyone who decides to learn a musical instrument, or simply admire music and learn its ways even if you don't want to make a living out of it, will surely become a better human being. There are SO MANY ways to start learning music, so I don't necessarily believe in forcing students to read sheet music of classic standards. I started out with chords and tabs in middle school and that has given me the ability to figure out most basic-intermediate songs by ear. I went on to learn to read sheet music in college and if reading music is something that interests the student, we will of course pursue that together. Read More

I'm very encouraging and patient! I really think everyone goes at their own pace and anyone can get to what's fun about music for them with some practice. I'm here to help in any way. And am great at looking for what makes you tick, specifically, and then structuring lessons around what is inspiring and exciting to you. I try to make more technical aspects fun and help people through the initial phases of awkwardness or discomfort with a miminum of stress and allow to feel okay with the process and enjoy the progress that comes.
