I am a passionate instructor who loves to watch students grow and develop. I am very involved and actively participate in each lesson, working with each student in order to learn together. I encourage students through positive reinforcement and attempt to instill a joy and love for music. By getting to know my students, I tailor lessons to their skill level and give each student control over how we learn and what we learn. Read More

I implement materials of my own design mixed with songs of the students choosong and tastes, and typically have them up and playing a song or two that they like in a couple of lessons. All ages, styles, and expereince levels are welcome. For reading, I like to use a combination of notation, tabs and chord diagrams. And while I dont absolutely insist that the student learn to read notation, I do strongly encourage it. Read More

I love it when I see a student smiling because of their hard work and dedication to their instrument. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at her or his own pace. I always encourage my students to start slow and to not get frustrated. From personal experience there are times when I have been learning a song and work on it day in and day out and it seems like there is no progression in sight. Read More

My first conversation with students is what they would like to learn. This doesnt have to be specifically about one instrument, but what they would like to become as a musician. What music do the students enjoy? What inspires them? Who are their musical influences? I have taught students to have developmental issues. I have taught gifted students. The biggest teaching method I have is to be flexible because no two students learn alike. Read More

I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have taught at the University level, small mom and pop music stores, large chain stores, as well as my own studio. It is imperative that the lessons are a positive musical experience, and fun for the student. Its my job to motivate and help the student gain confidence and feel good about his or her playing. The eventual goal is to teach a student how to teach themselves. I've found if you mold a musician you're making someone whose interest in music will persevere, always taking that next step, and always finding more interesting and challenging questions. It’s within this gradual cultivation of curiosity and knowledge where I’ve found the most joy and I see it as a responsibility to share that place of joy with my students. Read More
