I have been teaching privately for almost 4 years. I train students on whatever they want to learn, but make sure to incorporate the basic fundamentals needed for good singing I also spent time teaching in public schools as a high school choir director and elementary general music teacher. This gave me experience working with a wide age range of students, and helped me develop different techniques for different age groups. Read More

I teach with a positive attitude and lots of encouragement. Why? Because this is meant to be a safe space for learning your instrument, whatever your age or current skill level. I am trained to find any area where you feel uncomfortable playing or learning and find new and better ways to help you get exactly what you want to play under your fingertips. I make sure that no matter what we do or where we go in the lesson, you get a playing victory every single time you show up! Read More

With all students I put a lot of emphasis on leaning how to learn. I believe that by, for instance, teaching students how to make good use of their practice time (being productively self-critical) and processing information in an intuitive way, drastically expedites musical development and profoundly affect brain development. Much of this intuitive practice has to do with internalizing information such as music theory or recordings to the point that they become second nature much like a language. Read More

I try to approach each student as an individual. Every student has their own level of enthusiasm, patience, willingness, and availability. Learning music should always be fun and rewarding first and foremost. I believe in building a good teacher/student relationship and pushing my students beyond what they believe their limits are. Learning music is a never ending process. I want my students to be able to learn and grow outside of the lesson room. Read More

Immediately I'd like to know why the student is pursuing the given instrument, then sort of gauge a level of passion, drive, talent, etc. and then work from there. With guitar and piano there are several routes one could choose for performance, and each one has different teaching fundamentals. Someone who gravitates more toward Jazz will need a very strong base in musical theory, where as someone who wants to play classical might need stronger technical work. Read More

I am pursuing degrees in Music and Psychology from Columbia University. I have immense knowledge of jazz history, music theory, and music in general. I read music proficiently and also teach jazz composition as well as counterpoint and music within the Common practice period. In our lessons, I will provide recommended listening to go along with our guitar-focused studies. I have taught students for the past 5-6 years and I also provide educational concerts at Mosaic Mental Health in Bronx, NY... Read More

I love to have fun in my lessons. No single student understands the same thing the same way so I take the time to listen/understand them as a person and as a musician. While it would be wonderful if all of my students became virtuosi musicians, I understand that sometimes math class may be at the forefront of their attention. That said, practice is still required. Like a doctor, I prescribe solutions to students to help them achieve their goals and will do everything I can to help them to succeed but if they dont take the remedy, success is can be quite slow.
