I approach teaching as a creative coach. My goal is to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skill that the student then can use to empower their creativity. From the beginning we learn music theory and how scales work on guitar. What makes guitar special as an instrument. We learn exercises and chords to build finger strength and knowledge of the fretboard. But most importantly I open space for creative exploration. Read More

Hello, my name is Jordan and I've been a professional touring musician and music teacher for the last 16 years. I have a degree in Music Performance from GA State University (Saxophones-Jazz Studies). During my undergrad I took several years of classical lessons with Atlanta’s best saxophonist-Sam Skelton, as well as several years of jazz performance. During my time in Atlanta I was introduced to many great players! Including my good friend Coy Bowles, current member of the Zac Brown Band. Read More

I start beginning students that are interested in learning to play guitar with rhythm for the strumming hand. I will then move on to the fretting hand to finger positioning as well as learning the notes (on the guitar fingerboard) as heard at concert pitch. Music theory will be taught as applied to the guitar. I do not use any published books for teaching but prefer to develop my own lessons plans customized to each students interest and ability. At that age, it's all about their goals, since the students are self-sufficient and able to decide what's best for their goals on their own. As far as method books go, I like Hal Leonard's Essential Elements (I've used those methods a lot when teaching middle school band) for young students, Hanon's exercises and Bela Bartok's Mikrokosmos for intermediate piano, and trips to Guitar Center for adult guitarists (I'm serious: John Petrucci has a great method for Rock Guitar, for example). My passion for sharing knowledge begin during my time as high school tuba section leader, which led to Senior band president. Assisting my peers so we could sound better via musical corrections, this would build our confidence levels and the moral throughout the ensemble. I furthered my passion for music at Berklee College of Music, where I studied various aspects, methods, and approaches to educating someone about the art of music. Read More

My teaching style is unique because it revolves around having fun with music. I believe that more traditional forms of teaching can be too dull or too urgent, leading to disinterest. Once you become disinterested, you're far more likely to quit - and I don't want you to quit! Learning to play an instrument is one of the most fulfilling accomplishments that a person can achieve, no matter the age or skill level. Read More
