To me it is one of the greatest rewards to see my students understand a concept or play a difficult passage. I believe it's important for each student to progress at his or her own pace because everyone has a different mindset. I often tell my students to just work on the first and second staff of the music so they don't overload themselves with work. Setting reasonable goals fuels the students desire to progress and gets them excited to continue learning more. Read More

For beginner students, I start with some fundamental basics but I always try to keep the information relatable to each individual student no matter what their skill level. I take a very individualized approach for each student and tailor the lessons just for them depending on what the student is interested in and their skill level. I like to teach by demonstrating information through songs that each student enjoys. The only books I tend to use are empty music books so I can write out specific music and instruction for each student. Read More

I love music. I still find joy and challenges every time I play. I began studying at a very young age and alot of things are imbedded in my soul. Listening is the most important gift we can give ourselves. Whether in music or in life we can all teach ourselves the gift of listening. I think experiencing the thing we call music is beyond theory. My time in school was nothing next to the thousands of gigs I have accumulated in my 45 years doing music. Read More

I have put in a lot of dull studio time and years of practice and private lessons. I have taught hundreds of students over the years and I find that most new musicians just want to play for the fun of playing! That's my goal. Not everyone will be a rock star. The financial rewards are often limited, but the joy of music is priceless. I want to spread the joy of music to every student I teach. Read More

My main philosophy is that every student is different and should be treated accordingly. The methods I use are specifically tailored to each student and can be methods that I have learned or developed myself. I start students off by asking them collect ideas about their instrument and the music they enjoy. From that point, I begin to simultaneously teach technique and musicianship in relation to their expressed interests. The key to my teaching method is that I ask difficult questions and then I give the student time to think and develop an answer. Read More
