I like to start with review of the last lesson and any homework assigned for the student to work on. I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. It is important to me that each student learns at their own pace when I teach. I dont want to force things upon students that they arent ready for, or dont want to do. Because of this, most of my curriculum is based around music of the students choosing, so they keep engaged and wanting to keep learning. I studied classical guitar and studied with the amazing guitarist and teacher Louis Steele. I was also active in all the Jazz ensembles, choirs, and Pep Bands. After graduating I toured the Western US with the indie/soul group Hello Dollface. In my tenure in the band we released two albums, completed a Kick-starter for $10,000, and toured in every western state in the US performing in bars, theaters, private events and festivals. Read More
