I'm a freelance musician with over six years of teaching experience. A singer/songwriter from New York, I graduated from Vassar College in 2020 with a degree in music, and moved to New Orleans to pursue a career in music education. In my time at Vassar, I was selected to join the school's Jazz Band as the sole bassist my Freshman year, I played bass in the orchestra where I spent time as the principal bassist, and led a small Jazz combo as well. With more advanced students, furthering a students development and introducing more challenging concepts is what I focus on teaching. With drumming, I like to incorporate concepts such as polyrhythms, an understanding of different genres, improvisation, and ear training. For students that are preparing to pursue a degree in music, I can help them prepare for an audition because of my experience of being a college music student in the past. Read More

Goals are always tailored to individual student interests. I like to assign practice homework, which is a mix of technical exercises and song-based learning using student-preferred music. I love to watch students peel back the layers of the onion and discover how their favorite artists make music, from learning common chord progressions to transcribing solos note-for-note to imitating playing styles. Very important: Students should also be prepared to be on the receiving end of some high-quality dad jokes, which may or may not be sprinkled throughout homework assignments along with salt and pepper to taste. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

The first thing I do is find out where you already are. If you’re a beginner, we’ll get right into the basics and build from there. I like to use a book to supplement lessons but not as a main focus. If you’ve already been playing, I’ll usually try to find anything you may have missed along the way that I consider to be important. Once the basics are covered, our path is greatly dependent on your goals. Read More

My teaching style is firm yet easygoing and fun..I expect the student to have practiced and be ready to play their homework back to me. I use repetition quite a bit but that's the best way, I find, that someone learns. I also encourage them to investigate and practice things that have not necessarily been assigned in order to see how serious they are. In other words, when they're not practicing what I show them, I expect them to experiment and investigate the fretboard on their own and then if they do come across something cool, then we can build off that Read More
