ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

MM, UMass Lowell, Community Music, 2014 BM, UMass Lowell, Sound Recording Technology, 2011

Overview:
Hello! I am a professional saxophone player in the great musical city of New Orleans. I recently moved from my home state of Massachusetts working as a director of an after school music program for youth, to pursue a career as a performer. Since relocating, I've performed hundreds of shows with many amazing bands, such as the Glen David Andrews Band, the Young Fellaz Brass Band, the Marigny St Brass Band, The Roamin' Jasmine, the Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, and many more. Sharing my knowledge and love of music is a great passion, so I look forward to connecting with students of all backgrounds and experience levels.
EXPERIENCE
I began my journey as a mentor and teacher as a camp counselor back when I was in High School. Since then, I have developed my teaching style and experience through offering private and group music lessons in after school programs, music studios, and middle schools across Massachusetts. From 2013-2015 I went back to school for my masters in Community Music Education, where I studied traditional and experiential learning, progressive and alternative education, as well as arts administration and childhood development. From 2014-2016, I served as the Music Director of an after school music program focusing on performance, recording, electronic music, and leadership. I since moved to New Orleans to continue my own education in jazz and American music as a performer, while dedicating time to helping students navigate their own journey through the world of music.
METHODS USED
Because every student has different levels of experiences, aptitudes, and learning styles, my teaching methods vary based on each student. Generally, I work with the student to come up with a set of goals to work towards achieving. I teach the fundamentals of the instrument through learning songs that are of interest to the student. I generally use notation (sheet music) and will use instrument workbooks if it seems appropriate, while focusing mainly on developing the ear through listening. Whether or not we use sheet music, I always work on developing the student's ear through listening and improvising. Every lesson, my students will have fun and learn something new.
LESSON STYLE
I always approach teaching music in a relaxed and fun way. With the right teacher, learning music greatly rewarding and enjoyable. My teaching style is always based around my students experience level, their goals, and learning style. I always start with activities that are within the student's abilities, and carefully progress through more challenging pieces and exercises. This way, the student will always have a challenge that is achievable, not too difficult that makes them want to quit, and not to easy that makes them bored. Finding that sweet spot between challenges and abilities is what makes learning music fun and progressive.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
