Once the student has progressed and has managed to grasp fundamentals, we can proceed to the next volumes within the same series. For adults, I typically do my best to see what they are interested, and will guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons intriguing. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! For beginning students, I combine multiple elements to understand the various aspects of their new instruments. With a combination of videos for inspiration, singing for audiation, and moving for connection to the instrument and how our muscles respond to it. My lessons rarely consist of sitting for the entire time. I believe that in the short time we have in lessons, it is more important to expose students to a variety of resources to investigate their new endeavor than it is to repeat repertoire for the sake of a quick result.
