Beginning students for woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone) usually start with the Essential Elements book. As they advance the next books are usually Breeze Easy book 2 followed by the Rubank Intermediate and Advanced Methods. Advanced students will break into instrument specific methods. Flute with use methods such as The Melodious Studies and Pares scales books, clarinets with use the Klose books and Saxophone students will use Ferling and Klose studies. High school students will work out of the Blue Standards of Excellence book for their freshman and sophomore year; along with a more advanced packet of warm up and scale exercises that I received from the ASU clarinet studio and my current clarinet professor Jeff Quamo. Junior year and senior year students will be expected to know at least 80% of the circle of 5ths and they'll begin to start playing etudes out of the Rose Etude book along with studying farther into the warm-up and practice packet. I was educated in Sandfields Comprehensive School, Hull then Cardiff Universities, where I studied with renowned Welsh composer Alun Hodinott. I taught in the London School system for several years. I emigrated to the USA in 1975, living and performing in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and then moving to Phoenix in 1989.
