When it comes to my teaching style, it is important for the student to learn at their own pace.  I will set goals for my students based off of how he or she learns so that they can progress in a way that is comfortable for them.  I will never push the student to where he or she is uncomfortable and become discouraged and lose interest.  I also encourage the students to ask any questions that they have and that should never feel embarrassed about their questions. For beginning students, I place a large emphasis on the fundamentals i.e. scales, chord progressions etc. I also start them on solo pieces and like them to choose the pieces they are working on. I believe that if they choose their repertoire then they will have greater love and enthusiasm for the music. I also encourage them to push beyond what they think they can do. During this residency I was able to give private woodwind lessons to beginners-intermediate players, conduct, and co-lead wind ensemble rehearsals. Since graduating San Jose State University in 2023, where I worked as a music theory tutor for all undergraduate theory classes, from beginning theory through advanced counterpoint and orchestration; I have also started teaching music theory, composition, and sound recording remotely to all levels in my own studio. The most important thing is that each student feels enjoyment and inspiration from their lessons. While I think it is necessary to stay on topic and have boundaries, beyond that, my teaching style is often unique to the student. Some students move at a quick paces and move through repertoire quickly, while others need more time to process and work. As long as the student is regularly practicing, there will be no pressure to perform a certain way. Read More
