The first few lessons will focus on discovering our goals as one team: student, teacher and parents. We will have an open conversation about specific aspects of the flute and music that each student would like to improve as well as identifying their strengths. I use a variety of teaching methods, based on my own experience as a performer that I gained throughout long years of international education. I usually start my beginner students with Flute 101 Mastering the Basics method book, followed with the selection of scales and technical exercises of my creation and a repertoire selection (including etudes) matching the skills progression. In my 30 years of teaching experience, and being exposed to many methods, I chose to mix and match them to each student's ability and disposition. Each student is different with variety of expectations, abilities and interests, so as I get to know them, I try to best cater to their needs and find ways for them to learn while growing and improving on every level, not just musically. Engaging students in variety of ways of learning (visual, auditory, etc), I also care of their personal stories, which I find brings great connection and makes learning much more fun for my students as they feel heard. I am very familiar with all of the standard piano methods, and will evaluate the student in the first few lessons to choose a method that they will be the most comfortable with.  I supplement all lessons with music theory and outside repertoire, allowing the students to choose from their favorite genres/artists.  For theatre, musical theatre, and vocal coaching, I also employ Linklater and Alexander techniques.
