I have taught part time through the Chicago Public Schools where I worked with two kindergarden aged students. The second curriculum will be be centered on more contemporary music; Jazz, Pop, etc. In this curriculum, we will study and learn the different keys and chords, improvisation, etc. In both paths, my students will have the opportunity to perform on an annual basis in front of other students and parents. Ultimately the classical route did not give me enough freedom to play the way I wanted to. In my work as a teacher I have found that the pursuit of an instrument, though hard work, should fundamentally be enjoyable for the student.
