I have been a private piano teacher, accompanist and arranger in Tucson and Los Angeles since 1980. I am currently teaching piano and violin in the Canoga School of Music, Canoga Park, CA and giving private lessons as far as 15 miles from my home in Canoga Park, CA. My past teaching experience has included the Las Virgenes Unified School District and eleven years teaching piano and music theory at Learning Tree University. Read More

My style is closer to the Russian style than to the American style. This tends to involve more discipline, an emphasis on focus and concentration, and a more direct communicative approach. I don't usually mince words, although I am very supportive and gentle. My students seldom suffer self-confidence problems, because we are always too concerned with improving ourselves. We identify and focus on the task at hand. This is not for everyone, but for those that prefer this style, there is no substitute. Read More

I do not use traditional methods when I teach, though I may borrow from some. Instead, I observe the student for a few lessons and determine their learning ability. For children with a strong attention span, I focus on developing the basics, such as bow hold, sound production, and listening. Depending on the student's ability to hold the bow, I may allow them to grab the bow if the are struggling with the proper bow hold until they are more comfortable holding it; this also applies to adults. Few students get their position good and making a student confident. I talk to the student to work on their methods seriously like clapping the rhythm, going through the repertoire for their school and writing on down on music terms, fingerging, and listening. I go through my student for violin on looking at the posture of the instrument andthe bow. Most students quite because student have other plans and activities. Read More

As a student I had many teachers who made me achieve at their pace and with their understanding of what the violin required. Ultimately the classical route did not give me enough freedom to play the way I wanted to. In my work as a teacher I have found that the pursuit of an instrument, though hard work, should fundamentally be enjoyable for the student. Whether it is finding the music that resonates deeply with you, or constructing practice assignments that are clear and achievable within a week, I want to connect with each student I teach and help them to find a regular rhythm in their lessons that keeps them feeling productive.
