I focus on the individual more than anything else. I tailor my teaching style to each student.  When something clicks for them, I stick with it and adapt to keep the student engaged, interested, and passionate about music.  If I find a student is not fond of a certain book or solo, we change course together. During my time at Hartt and NYU, I have performed with the Hartt School Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, the NYU Orchestra, as well as the hart School Contemporary music ensemble, and performed recitals as a soloist, and as a member of my flute quartet and flute and guitar duo. For age 0-4, I have opened Zumbini program for those babies and their caregivers. My piano lessons start at age 4. For those beginner students, I use Piano Adventures from Faber and Faber, typically focused on lesson books, performance books and theory books. When students move on to the higher levels, I will start to introduce easy classical repertoire, such as J.S. Bach or Bergermuller. If students have specific interests or preferred genre, I will encourage to explore them and help them along the way. Read More

I do, however, allow diversion and conversation in lessons. If there is a song that may explain the musical idea, we will stop and listen. If a young child wants to relay a story from school they thought of because of our practice, I will stop and listen. I may also speak in depth about musical history, style, or even the psychology of music. I think this combination draws students into the mind of a musician, and gets them to start thinking like one.
