For beginning students who are children, I often use the Andrew Scott Method for flute. When the student is considerably advance I will use the Rubank Book for flute begginers. Once the student is at a comfortable level, I will proceed to introduce him to Body Mapping. I also worked as a School Aged Child Care Leader at Sandburg Elementary School from 2015 to 2018, further honing my skills in working with children ages 5 to 11. In 2019, I attended Marrowstone Music Festival as a Fellow. This gave me the opportunity to mentor high school and undergraduate flutists individually and during sectionals and to coach a student wind quintet. I always try not to push for practice assignments, students are busy for school homework, outdoor activities, family obligations, most importantly, students should have fun to play music, of course practice is important, but if students lost interest in music playing, it will be hard to continue to have lessons. For parents, they would like to see kids's improvements, so that I set up student recital each year, and they can see how the kids improved each semester. Read More

For all students, I encourage them to use Trevor Wye practice books, which include my favorite Reichert and Taffanel Gaubert exercises, warmups, and etudes. While learning the fundamentals, I have some beginner-level pieces and etudes to help hone these skills before students move onto more advanced repertoire. I like to guide my teaching according to the styles and composers that students are interested in to ensure that my students enjoy what they are playing first and foremost. Read More
