I began teaching in my sophomore year of college at the age of 19. I started by giving thirty minute to one hour lessons to local students. I soon began leading masterclasses for the flute students of the local middle and high schools. Most recently, I taught a masterclass to a large group (30-40) of high school flute students. I love playing the flute and being able to share my passion with others. I earned my BM in 2007 from Florida State University. There were so many wonderful playing opportunities here and as an undergraduate I was playing in the top orchestra. I was also a member of the world renown Marching CHIEFS where I served as section leader to 50 plus flute players. For students of all ages, I like to lead with the quote from Marcel Moyse; "Practicing is a matter a time, patience and intelligent work", for I believe that once this is applied to the idea of practicing and general encounters with ones instrument, then success and progress is guaranteed. Aside from that principle, I like the idea of independent work from students to keep them accountable on the journey to becoming a musician but a more interactive and demonstrative approach during the lesson to give students an idea of what needs to be done while being that good role model so that they may keep motivated work hard at becoming the best possible musicians.
