Some of my students want to go to college for music performance, and others just want to sound better in their school's band. I take that into account when choosing particular warmups and repertoire. For all students I try to incorporate all elements of music by including appropriate amounts music history and theory into my lessons. For beginners, I tend to utilize Trevor Wye exercises, and slowly incorporate small musical pieces. Although tedious, I believe that scales and etudes make students technically and musically proficient. I therefore include them in my lessons, but ensure the students are gaining the benefit of these exercises. As they love what they are doing and how well they are succeeding, student often develop a wanting to put more and more work into their playing. I show encouragement for their accomplhments, yet also discipline to make sure they are on the correct path. Since then, I have moved to Nashville, earned my Master's Degree from Belmont University in 2014, and have began my professional career as a freelance saxophonist.
